The following is an excerpt from an article in the Barrie Examiner by Donna Danyluk

“The sound of robust laughter and friendly jibing fills the air and permeates the crowded room at the A.N.A.F club. There are; hot coffee, bad jokes and songs to sing - in and out of key, it doesn't really matter.

It's the Tuesday morning meeting of the Kiwanis Club of Barrie Golden K. Here at 9 a.m. sharp, a group of 60 men, all seniors, meet, swap stories, sip coffee, laugh about old times, remember their friends who have passed away and get down to some very serious business.

You could say they're in the field of construction as they diligently work at ‘building a better community’. The amount of time these men give to their community would surprise men half their age. Last year alone, the Golden K members donated more than 2500 volunteer hours to the community. Club members total an average of 225 hours of volunteer work each month.”

The Objects of Kiwanis

To give primacy to the human and spiritual, rather than to the material values of life.

To encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human relationships.

To promote the adoption and the application of higher social, business, and professional standards.

To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive, and serviceable citizenship.

To provide through Kiwanis clubs, a practical means to form enduring friendships,

To render altruistic service, and to build better communities.

To cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public opinion and high idealism,

which make possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism and good will.
